This forum is meant to be a gathering place for all birders, but a few simple rules must be agreed to.
1) I agree not to use this site to defame or slander other birders or members of the public, whether site members or non-members. Please try to use respectful language, even when disagreeing with another person. Sexist, homophobic, and racist language will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
2) I agree to try to keep my language appropriate for all ages, and to not post inappropriate pictures.
3) I agree to uphold all relevant laws as well as the ABA Code of Ethics. Protection of birds and their habitat is of utmost importance.
3a) I understand that harassment of most birds is a crime. Possession of bird carcasses, feathers, and other parts may also be a crime.
3b) I agree not to encourage trespassing. I also agree not to promote a location or site the visiting of which has the potential to destroy sensitive habitat.
3c) I agree not to post known locations for sensitive bird species. Locations may refer to known individuals present in one site over a long period of time or known nesting locations. Species covered under this rule include but are not limited to ALL falcons, kites, hawks, eagles, owls, vultures, and condors, in addition to rare, sensitive, and endangered species such as Snowy Plover, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Willow Flycatcher, Bell's Vireo, and California Gnatcatcher. Exceptions to this rule are for sites such as Fall River Mills, Honey Lake, or Audubon Canyon Ranch, where the location is generally well known and regularly visited by the public. Giving general locations for a species, such as "Crane Flat" or "Big Sur," is allowed, provided repeated visits to the site will not result in destruction of habitat, or in the bird or birds abandoning the area.
Offending posts will be deleted at the discretion of an administrator or moderator.
Violation of these rules may result in suspension or termination of my account.
If I feel that another member is in violation of these rules, I will report the violation to Athena, another administrator, or another moderator.
